TrustPower has resource consent for a 200MW wind farm north of Lake Mahinerangi, in the Clutha District. The consent is for 100 wind turbines, each with a maximum height of 145 metres.
The consent was originally granted by the Clutha District Council and Otago Regional Council in October 2007, but the decision was appealed to the Environment Court. The Environment Court hearing was held in April and May 2008. The Court declined the appeal in an interim decision, released July 2008, but required TrustPower to provide more details of the project before finalising the consent. Concent was confirmed in late December 2008.
TrustPower is now assessing the economic viability of the project, and intends to proceed with construction when economic conditions, such as the exchange rate and wind turbine prices, allow.
