Genesis Energy is proposing to build a wind farm on a large site approximately 20 kilometres east of Eketahuna and Pahiatua, and 20 kilometres north east of Masterton.
A resource consent application was lodged with the local and regional councils in August 2011. The council granted concent for the wind farm in June 2012, although it declined 19 of the proposed 268 turbines and granted consent for a mix of maximum tip heights and rotor diameters for the remaining turbines. The council consent was appealed to the Environment Court by three parties, including Genesis Energy. The Environment Court hearing has not been set yet.
Genesis Energy expects that if it moves to construct the wind farm, it would be built in stages over several years.
Genesis Energy operates the Hau Nui wind farm, south of Martinborough in the Wairarapa.
