Castle Hill

Genesis Energy is proposing to build a wind farm on a large site approximately 20 kilometres east of Eketahuna and Pahiatua, and 20 kilometres north east of Masterton.

A resource consent application was lodged with the local and regional councils in 1st August 2011, after careful monitoring of wind conditions, assessments and local consultations.

Genesis has designd the Castle Hill Wind Farm with turbines in 'clusters', as the extensive site covers several hills. The consent application is for 268 wind turbines, providing a generating capacity in the range of up to 858MW. At that size, it would be the largest single wind farm in New Zealand, able to prodvide electricity equivalent to 370,000 homes.

Genesis Energy expects that if it moves to construct the wind farm, it would be built in stages over several years.

In April 2012 Commissioners acting for the councils released a preliminary decision indicating that consent would be granted subject to conditions.

Genesis Energy operates the Hau Nui wind farm, south of Martinborough in the Wairarapa.
