Meridian Energy is seeking consent to build a 60 megawatt wind farm on a small but exceptionally windy site 5km from Eketahuna in the Northern Wairarapa.
The wind farm would have 20 turbines, each with a maximum height of 130 metres. It would supply electricity into the local electricity network.
Meridian applied for consent in January 2012. Public submissions on the proposal closed in March 2012. The consent hearing has been deferred to allow for additional bird monitoring on the transmission line route and completion of the Iwi's Cultural Values Assessments.
Horizons, Wellington Regional Council, Tararua and Masterton District Councils have granted an extension to the timeframe in which the hearing will be held until November 2013.
