1-5pm, 29 March 2010
This year delegates have the opportunity to visit Vestas’ Palmerston North operations and experience the Tararua Wind Farm from new heights.
TrustPower’s Tararua Wind Farm is one of the longest operating wind farms in New Zealand, with its first 48 turbines installed in 1999. The wind farm now has 134 turbines, making it the largest wind farm in New Zealand.
Delegates have the choice of taking a tour of the wind farm, or combining the tour with a trip up to the nacelle of a Vestas V90 turbine (don’t worry, we’re not asking you to climb, we will be using the elevator). This is a rare opportunity to have a look around the inside – and outside if conditions permit – of an operational nacelle.
Buses will depart from the Palmerston North Convention Centre at 1 pm sharp (please arrive at 12.45). There will be a short stop at the Vestas Warehouse for a safety briefing before travelling on to the wind farm.
Book early as seats are limited and we expect the spaces will sell quickly. Proceeds from the turbine experience will be donated to a local Manawatu charity of TrustPower’s choice.
On returning to the Palmerston North Convention Centre you are invited to attend the conference reception and the opening of the exhibition hall. Drinks and nibbles will be provided.
All participants will need to travel by bus to the wind farm (sorry, no private vehicles).
Seats are strictly limited and will be issued on a first come, first served basis. You can register when you register for the 2010 Wind Energy Conference.
Cost:
Wind farm tour only: $80+GST
